905 - Critical Changes with Weather Barriers and Waterproofing, The Building Envelope
About This Course
The presentation looks at how weather barriers have changed in the last 20 years. The many changes in building techniques and codes have forced waterproofing and weather barrier manufactures to come up with new solutions to better meet the needs of the modern building as well as maintain healthy environments in the building.
Prerequisite Knowledge
None required
HSW Justification
This presentation goes into detail on how a building should be waterproofed as well as what new health requirements have been added. These requirements have limited the use of many standard solutions (generally due to new VOC requirements) as well as have required buildings to be built much tighter. In turn, waterproofing and weather barrier manufactures have had to create products that in some cases keep water out while allowing vapor to transfer through the envelope.
Learning Objectives
- Understand basic water proofing and weather barrier construction terminology and waterproofing approaches.
- Understand common technologies used in weather barrier and waterproofing systems and specifically the advantages and disadvantages of each commercially available option.
- Understand critical details and installation instructions to ensure a successful installation of a proper weather and waterproofing system.
- Understand the critical quality control measures and warranties available by major manufactures.
